Solemn News

Hello friends, this is Kathleen the human. You must forgive me for what may seem as abandonment of this blog, for I know it's been months since I've had a chance to come to the public library and use the computers provided there (as we do not currently have one of our own).
I'm afraid I have some very sad news to share, and I can hardly type as I am crying and the tears just keep coming.
Last summer, we were evicted from our home because our landlord was preparing to sell the home.
We had little notice and by the time  we found a  house, due the circumstances under which we were in, we took what we could find. The bad news was that our landlady had a no indoor  pets policy, which was very unfair and misleading (beforehand we had notified her that we had 3 cats and they were indoor only, she seemed okay with that until it came to sign the lease agreement. Additionally, our next door neighbor who has the same landlady has 3 indoor cats who she has been allowed to keep. That is so unfair and I am infuriated and so angry beyond words at this injustice.)
So we were in a situation. We've had Sherlock and Traveler and Ash since babies and finding a new home for them is unthinkable. They are my babies and I love them more than anything.

But our landlady is persistent and demanding, so we faced separating from our babies or moving out.
I can't stop crying at this point. I miss them so much.
She is allowing us to keep one, who is Ash. We had to drive to the  local Shelter and they were then transferred to a no-kill where they will be safe. I miss them so much.
I will never get to hug or kiss my babies again, let them curl up in my lap or feed them treats. I know they are safe, but it is hard. I miss them so much.

Now we have Ash, and I am thankful she did not have to go to the shelter too, or I would feel completely broken. I feel like I'm dying inside and can't stop crying. I haven't had the time to change "Sherlock and Traveler's" story tabs yet, and really I am hesitant to do so because every time I see their cat bed or come across one of their photos I break into tears. This is a very hard time for me right now and I thank you for taking time to read this. Here is a photo of me and Ash, one of the last ones taken, I am smiling in this one because I'm so happy to have kept her, but now I wish I wasn't smiling because I'll never get to take any photos with Sherlock or Traveler again. I miss my babies. Please forgive me for my delay in visiting, I will try to visit all of your blogs soon.

  2. This is heartbreaking, I'm so sorry for the unfair way you and your family have been treated.
I volunteer at a no kill shelter and, if it's any consolation, please believe that your sweet cats will be safe and loved until the best homes are found for them.
    With sympathy,

  3. We are shocked and heartbroken over your news. You guys were our Secret Paws this past Christmas so you became very special to us. You are all in our thoughts and prayers that wonderful homes can be found for Sherlock and Traveler. (((hugs)))

  4. This is just terrible. I don't know what I would do if I had to face what you have had to. Some people just don't understand that our cats are not just pets but part of our families, and I think what your landlady has done is reprehensible. I wish there was something I could do for you other than feel your heartbreak. :-(

  7. We are so sorry to read this, it is making our hearts break. So we are purring up a storm for you, to give you comfort in these times.

  8. My heart is breaking for you. There must be a division of your state government that handles landlord-tenant law. In my state, you can download guidelines for landlord-tenant law. Also, in my state, a person may contact that division. If your landlord said you can keep them, and your neighbors have the same landlord and keep cats indoors, you've got a case for certain. I hope the shelter will hold Sherlock and Traveler until you can contact the proper government entity in your state and resolve this. Please let me know how this goes.

  9. Omigod- I am crying right now. Oh man, this is Smokey's human. Awwww Kathleen I am so, so, sorry....I wish I lived closer to you so I could've helped somehow. I swear I'll pound Twitter every day for somebody nice to adopt Sherlock and Traveler.

  10. I am so sorry. Someone needs to totally destroy that evil, evil human.

  11. I am so so so sorry. I would be in the same state of I ever had to give over my baby...any of them thru the years, away or to a shelter. I am just so heartbroken for you. I would give anything if I could only help.

  12. Oh, I'm so saddened by all this. How awful ... I can't even imagine having to choose which to keep and which to give away.

Lots of purrs and prayers are heading your way ... and we hope Smokey is super-successful in finding people to adopt Sherlock and Traveler.

  14. Do look into the landlord tenant laws - the comment above is right - if your neighbor can keep the cats she has then you should too. Try to find a legal aid who know the lease laws and perhaps you can get your cats back. Don't give up without a fight!

  15. Oh, WOW. That is so sad. Purrrraying that Sherlock and Traveler find noo homes soonest. Can you at least get info from the shelter about how they're doing, or even where they go?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Oh no! I am so very sorry and know how awful and heart-broken you must be. I hope there is a special place in hell for humans like your landlady who cruelly broke up your family after misleading you. That was more than not right.

  17. This is beyond unfair! I would definitely seek legal actions. Laws shouldn't apply to a selective few in this situation. If one is allowed to have pets in this place, then so can others! This is sooo appalling! My heart goes out to you! I wish we live closer to you. Look, I am in NW Louisiana. E-mail me to let me know how close we are to the other to see if we can do anything! Hang in there...
    Hugs & Purrs,

  19. Our mom is in tears. You have the sweetest kitties, and we are thankful at least they are at a no kill shelter. I have free legal advice through my work (its good for a couple phone calls with a lawyer specializing in the field required). If you contact me, I can get all the info I need to find out what the laws are in your state & what your options are. It sounds to me like you have an oral agreement to keep your cats & there is a legal precedent for 3 cats. Email me at edensp1@hotmail.com & we can get the ball rolling so your kitties can come home. Maybe the shelter will foster your kitties until you can bring them home?

  20. Oh my heart breaks for you. I can't even imagine having to give up your babies like that. I send you a big (((Hug))) because I know you can use one. I just wish your babies could come home to you.

  23. You have done the best you could do in finding a no-kill shelter and in keeping your home AND one kitty. The others are safe AND well socialized by you and very sweet and appealing. If you don't have the means or the strength to pursue legal action, know that they will surely find a loving home with good people. I am so sorry for what's happened and I know how you must miss them. Spitty and I will purray for you to find peace. XOXOXO

  24. Oh my friend, I am so very sorry. I know how hard this must have been for you. I agree with Spitty - I'm sure they'll find a really great home because of the love you've given them.

  26. Oh Kathleen....we're so sad to read your blog update and our hearts are aching for you. That had to be the most traumatic thing having to give up two of your babies. Your landlady is quite unreasonable if she's allowing some to have their pets and others not. Very sad. We hope and pray the situation will change and you can be reunited with ALL your cat kids.....and soon.

Hugs of caring.....Sam and his Mom

  27. We are so sorry to read about this. We are heartbroken. :(
We aren't sure why your landlady would not allow you to have 3 cats when she allowed another tenant to do so. Maybe the other tenant paid a little more to have 3?
At least you have Sherlock and Traveller at a No-Kill shelter while you work things out. We're praying for a good outcome!

    ReplyDelete
  28. That is awful indeed. Go the legal route the oui oui said and threaten to sue the landlords arse off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. My heart is also breaking and I am in complete shock. I agree with others who said if the woman who also has the same landlord is permitted to keep her 3 cats this is definitely a discrimination case. You need to take legal action. I would go get the other 2 cats back.....absolutely.....you definitely have a case here

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just don't understand why that lady felt she had to separate you from your babies. I'm just shocked and enraged. I hope you can recover Sherlock & Traveller. Please keep us informed - Selina & I are thinking of you! I can't imagine how you must be feeling ...

  31. Oh, my goodness!!! This is way beyond sad. Our hearts are breaking for you all. How unfair of you to be allowed to keep Ash and not Sherlock and Traveler. What a devastating situation. We are just so sorry for all that has happened to you and your babies. We hope the landlady will change her mind and you can go bring back your babies. We are sending up prayers for all of you. Lots of warm hugs, nose kisses and love to you all!

  32. This is such sad news. We here all agree that there is most likely an opportunity for legal action. Of course many times that takes so long. We are sending prayers and purrs of support. Love you very much!

  33. we are so very sorry..... we will be purring for some miracle change - but please also know that as a volunteer for rescues, we do everything to make sure our charges find great homes. I know that isn't much consolation right now but they are safe and that is something.....

  34. This is very sad, I'm so sorry.

  35. Kathleen; I can not begin to imagine the heartbreak you are feeling: if I had to lose one of the trouters due to a circumstance such as this; I'd be devastated too. Please take the advice of the other posters and seek legal advice...NOW.... The library where you use the computer from may be an excellent source of guidance and contact Oui's mom. As stupid as this sounds, I hope sherlock and traveler remain at the shelter they are in until you can get help and or get them back; either via a friend, relative or better yet, on your own. Praying to God and St Franics this story has a happy ending...and the next post is about a family reunion.....

    XOXOXOXOXOXO

  36. I wanted to mention in some places, an oral agreement is binding if it came before a signed agreement, even if the terms are different. Also, chances are, just a letter from a lawyer may be enough to get her to change her mind, so you wouldn't have to go through litigation. Maybe then she would be willing to let your kitties come home and break your lease, buying you some time to find a pet friendly place to live. I hope to hear from you soon!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh my gosh, that is so horrible that I don't know what to say! Shame on both landlords! Hugs to you all!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am without words. I don't know what I could possibly say that would make you feel better 'cause I just know your heart is breakin' in a million and one pieces. Thank goodness you still have one baby with you. But don't give up. Things change. Please contact Oui Oui, just in case. And when your lease is up... there may be a chance for all of you to be together once more. purrs

  39. Oh no. I am so sorry to read this. This must be very difficult. My human can't even imagine having to face this.
Is there no hope at all that your landlady will change her mind after letting you keep Ash and if she sees everything goes well?
We are sending lots and lots of purrs

  40. Kathleen, I am so very sorry for you. It is terrible that this should happen. I do hope that you get some help from those who have commented here and can get Sherlock and Traveler back with you. Sending massive hugs from me and purrs from Austin too xox

  41. That is terrible. If your neighbor has 3 cats, you should've been able to fight it. Can you look for another apartment so maybe you can get your babies back? A Twitter friend is having the same problem and has to re-home 2 of his cats. Our love to all of you. I'm sure it would break your heart to visit them.

  42. Oh, so hard. I'm so sorry to hear that. That land lady is definitely not going to have anyone waiting at the rainbow bridge for her. -Crepes.

  43. We are so very sorry. We hopes Sherlock and Traveler will find good homes or that somehow you can be reunited again. Thank Cat they are at a NO-Kill Shelter. Can you visit them?

  44. Horrible news. I never will understand how some humans can be so beyond cruel. You poor dear. I do hope you will contact QuiQui and see if she can be of any help to you., I wish the best for you and hope you can get your babies back.

  45. crap! I am so horribly sorry! That landlord has some seriously bad karma heading his/her way; stand back and don't be near when that karma hits! It will be an ugly sight! Please let us know when your other two precious babies have found new homes. I am relieved they are not in a kill shelter. paw pats, Savannah

  48. I'm so sorry to hear of this, and my heart is absolutely breaking for you. We do hope you'll look into those tenant-landlord laws, and that you will take up Oui Oui's Mom's offer to help with the legal stuff. We are glad Traveler and Sherlock are in a no-kill shelter. Maybe the shelter will hold them/foster them for you until you are able to take them back?

  49. This is so sad and I'm so sorry it happened to you :( Sherlock and Traveler will be missed I know. My thought are with you.

  51. Oui Oui's Mom is right the landlord should not have been able to do this and make up rules arbitrarily for different tenants. There is documentation process. Purrs.

  52. This is so not fair.
I'm sorry you have to face a situation like this.

  53. This is terribly unfair of your landlady to let one person keep three indoor cats and to tell you that you have to give yours away. I am very glad that you got to keep Ash, but I am crying, too, that you had to give up Sherlock and Traveler.
